Mission Statement An Lòchran (The Lantern) is an organisation formed in 1999 and exists to develop and promote Gaelic arts and culture in Glasgow and to establish a cultural centre in the city. We seek to raise the profile of the language and culture in Glasgow by bringing them within reach of a wider audience and by organising high quality events which showcase the riches of our traditions and the skills of our artistes. Our first major initiative was the acclaimed Flower of the West concert and exhibition celebrating the songs and music of Rory and Calum MacDonald of Runrig.
Guiding Principles
All of An Lòchran's core, strategic and project activity is informed by principles of: Inclusion: in a multi-cultural city, An Lòchran will reach out to all, irrespective of age, racial origin, religion, culture or ability.
Creativity: An Lòchran will place creativity and innovation at the heart of all its operations rejecting the "fossilisation" of Gaelic and demonstrating the contemporary relevance and potential of Gaelic culture in Glasgow.
Quality: quality and artistic integrity will be fundamental to all An Lòchran's projects.
Sustainability: through a commitment to collaboration and development of partnerships and audiences, An Lòchran will endeavour to build a sustainable future for Gaelic arts in the city.
Added value: An Lòchran will seek to add value to all its projects by capitalising on their educational, media, tourism and economic potential.
